I have a CRF cat who gets 150-200 Sub-Q\'s every day or every other day, depending on her fluid level. She also gets hypercalcemia, but the Sub-Q\'s seem to take care of this. Since Renal Failure eventually means my precious cat will be leaving us, a friend gave me left-over Buprinex that her Vet gave for her cat who had a surgery, but recovered quickly and didn\'t use all of the Buprinex. I\'m just wondering what the shelf life of Buprinex is in case Autumn, my beloved cat, gets to that point where she\'s starting to feel pain so I can administer it to her every 12 hours. (I\'m Red-Cross certified in Dog & Cat First Aid, but that\'s mostly for things like CPR, Seizures, choking - doesn\'t really cover the things my special needs cats have, i.e., CRF, I have a hyperthyroid cat, Radial Hypoplasia guy, upper eyelid agenesis girl who had her surgery, but still has some scarring \'cause I wasn\'t able to foster her until she was 5 months old - someone else was and wouldn\'t give her up or get her to the surgeon before the damage was done). Anyways, in short, what is the shelf life of Buprenex? I know that some medicines become stronger after expiry and some don\'t - I would adjust accordingly when that time comes. p.s. I am not a drug user. I am an animal advocate and take in the cats with special needs.

I was given a choice between this and Metacam after my cat was spayed/declawed. After reading the horror stories about metacam (which by the way smells like tomcat pee) I am glad I chose this. only side effect I have noticed is drowsiness and I don't think that is a bad thing with her stitches and tender paws.

My vet prescribed my female cat buprenex for pain relief every 12 hrs after her surgery yesterday. The type she gave me is the injection form (it was even put in syringes with needles). When I told the vet I did not feel comfortable giving my cat injections, she said just to give it to her orally (without the needle of course). My question is, is the pain relief of this drug as effective as if I was to inject it? Or is the pain relief diminished due to the fact that it is swallowed by my cat? Thank you for any info you can give.
