Questions and Answers on Differin

I've been told by my dermatologist to a combonation of this at night and benzaclin in the morning plus some antibiotic that I don't feel as much to do with the dryness of my skin. It feels like a really, really bad sun burn when I just try to talk and move my mouth. I don't know if I should just apply to the affect area, or my whole face, how much I should be using or if I can use a moisturizer to make teh dryness go away. This is really painful, please help.

You should apply a PEA-SIZED amount all over your face! Don't rub in! Just spread it gently! For the dryness-you can use a good quality moisturizer (I use Vichy Thermal Fix 1) before applying the medication. Just wait for it to completely absorb. A s an alternative you can use a panthenol solution or better cream. Here in Europe it's sold under Bepanthen creme from Bayer. Try it. And I found out that its best to use a sequential approach to Differin- i used it just twice a week for the first two weeks and i added one application for week,i.e. 2 weekly for firts 2 weeks, then 3 times for 2 weeks, 5 times a week for 2 weeks,6 times for fortnight and 7 times. So i gradually came up to nightly application in about 2 months.

If you are still getting irritation, you might ask your dermatologist if you can apply the differin every other night. You can usually still get the full effects of the medication, but with less irritation. Als, are you using the gel or the cream? The gel can be more drying, so maybe ask your doctor for the cream instead?

Differin should be applied first, before moisturizer. Wait until completely dry then apply moisturizer. I find that the only moisturizer that does not sting or feel uncomfortable on the skin that feels like sunburn is Olay Complete SPF 15.

I had the same thing happen to me... I considered stopping the treatment because of it but it clears up with use... cut down on the amount your using and stick it out. Your face needs to adjust. Make sure you're only using it at night. I'm not sure if you should use a mousturizer so check with your doctor about that. Good luck!

I use prescribed benzole peroxide .05% in morning with face moisturizer 15-30 spf. At night I use differin, hydroqinone (whitening gel) and cetiphal.. equal parts and mix.(pea size of each) It is great! The scarring that I had has lightened and my face has changed to all one color. No more blotchy red spots. This is a good regimen.I have been using it for about a month and notice 75% difference. I tried everything. The burning and peeling happend first week or two, until my face got used to is. Ask doctor about
