dizziness and boniva

My 78 year-old father-in-law was taking Boniva once a month for a year and a half and had a syncopal event while he was walking. He had several more spells and fell several times. He went through numerous tests including MRI, carotid doppler, heart cath, holter monitor, and echocardiogram. He had a stress echocardiogram also which caused him to pass out because his heart rate went down and his blood pressure went down to below 80. He did a stress test earlier and the doctor said he did better than most 40 year-olds. When he fainted on the stress echo they dianosed him with vasovagal syncope. They didn\'t feel his syncope was related to the Boniva, but they said to stop it for 3-6 months. He is still being worked up and will see a electrophysiologist this month.

I have been taking Boniva for 13 months...About 3 months into taking it, I was experiencing vertigo--had a bit of a sinus infection and contributed the dizziness to that. Went to Ear nose & Throat doc who couldn\'t find any problem. Dizziness came and went until I saw another ENT who again couldn\'t find anything wrong with my ears. My Mother finally suggested that I take a close look at the SE of Boniva--lo and behold, dizziness was there. I will be stoipping Boniva for a month ( it will take 32 days to get completely out of my system) and will see if the vertigo subsides. I think it will!
