I had an asthma attack about a week ago. Ever since that, each time I inhale I have an acute pain that shoots up through my spine. Taking ventolin, gives me some relief. But I never recover completely. I am so much in pain some times that taking shallow breaths becomes the only solution. I want to know whether this is common or not. I also want to know what is it that I can take to prevent this from happening.

This pain is a common complaint among asthmatics. In many cases it seems to be caused by muscle tension caused by having a chronic cough and breathing problems. The muscles of the chest, ribs and back may be sore and painful from the strain of labored breathing and coughing. To prevent this from happening, you must have a well-controlled asthma.
