What Is Proper First Time Dosage for Prazine?

0 votes
A friend was admitted to a psychiatric ward and was given these meds as regular dosages. She is now on day treatment
Zyprexa, but at 20 mg
Oxazepam 15mg
prazine 100 mg
What I need to know is whether the dosage of prazine is the regular amount for first time usage or if it is a high dosage or a low dosage.

Thank you, Heather Stowell

Prazine belongs to a group of medications known as the phenothiazine antipsychotics. It acts by blocking a variety of receptors in the brain, particularly dopamine receptors. Prazine hydrochloride blocks these receptors and stops them becoming over-stimulated, thereby helping to control psychotic illness. Prazine has weak extrapyramidal and autonomic side effects which lead to its use in the elderly, for restless or psychotic patients. Its anti-psychotic effect is also weaker and it is not useful in general psychiatry.

The dose of this medicine that is prescribed and how often it needs to be taken depends on the condition being treated. It is important to follow the instructions given by your doctor. These will be printed on the dispensing label that your pharmacist has put on the medicine.
