Should I Stop Using Advair?

I have been experiencing a bad coughing spell for a few days and I went to the doctor with this. He put me on Advair 500/50 which gave me more problems than relief. The doctor claims that I am going through a bad asthma attack so such a drug intervention is absolutely necessary but personally, I have never had such a bad cough even during my worst episodes. There, I was coughing more than usual and also seemed to be out of breath most of the time with Advair.
I’ve stopped taking the drug and am planning to ask my doctor for a short course of prednisone that is apt for eliminating my symptoms. Is my decision correct? Do comment on this so that I’ll know for sure.
