Is It Really Hard To Breathe Air When You Have Asthma?

I have some questions based on the effect of asthma. I had shortness of breath; with every act which needs physical work. I stopped to flight up the stairs because it makes me so tried. Recently, I started to experience a new symptom that I cannot get air while sitting simply. Is that a symptom of asthma? I was on Advair but I stopped due to the heart palpitations.
