What Could Be the Reason Behind My Asthmatic Symptoms?

I am about fifty four and have never experienced asthma throughout my life. It triggered off one day when I was traveling to Dakota and I suddenly developed severe breathlessness. I mistook this for tension and it went away after a while. This continued for about four days at a stretch. I experienced the same problem in May again and then it seemed to occur very frequently. My condition got so worse that I had to be admitted at the hospital. They stated that I was suffering from pneumonia which I was sure that I did not really have. It seemed like a severe case of bronchial infection. I was put on antibiotics which did not give me any respite. I was finally put on Prednisone and an inhaler. I found that I was very allergic to pollen and grasses when I consulted an allergist finally. I was then prescribed Asmanex, Xopenex and Nasonex. But I find that I have not still gotten any better. I suffered from another severe attack this morning. It was Xopenex that really gave me some respite. I do not experience any itchiness or sneezing. I just cannot understand what the cause why I’m not getting any better. I would be extremely grateful if someone could tell me what exactly I am suffering from and if there is a solution from it. I have finally decided to consult a Pulmonary Doctor the next week.  I am getting extremely frustrated with life itself now. Please do help me out if you can as soon as possible.
