I am a healthy (I hope) 45 1/2 year old woman, I started to have my period at the age of 15 and I have no children. I have never used Birth Control pills or any medication. I also exercise daily and eat healthy as well as take vitamins and minerals like Cal.Mag Citrate 1000 mg fish oil 1000 mg vitamin C, Womens Mulitvitamin, Vitamin E 400IU.
I believe I am in perimenopausal, and maybe you can help. I started in my late 30's with mid cycle spotting, which comes and go. Now that I'm 45 1/2 I noticed more symptoms. Moodiness, short tempered, anxiety, tired, lightheaded at times, dizzy at times. Most recently I noticed my skin became increasingly dry, and I have a few silver/gray chin and lip hairs. My sex drive isn't what it used to be, though it’s still there. My most recent symptom sent me to the doctor for a blood exam. I woke for the very first time with Rapid heartbeat, no sweat just a RHB, scary. I have had it several times since it's waking me from my sleep, but I never sweat, just a little shaken with a slow deep pound feeling in my heart, then it starts beating so fast. It IS really terrifying. I have never had this before. After my results, my Dr. sold me Progensa 20 by Allvia for low progesterone. I want to know if these are the normal perimenopausal symptoms. What can you advise with the symptoms and blood exam results? I would really appreciate it. Today is day 8 of my Progensa cream. Last night I woke twice with RHB both instance lasted 3-4 minutes, the first time was close to 1/2 probably because I was terrified, not ever having this before. This is how it reads: Blood work done on day 14 I have a 32-34 day cycle.

Any information would be appreciated. I tried to give as much information as possible so you will understand. Do you think I am perimenopausal? Do you think with my results I am using the correct Progesterone cream? I refuse to take Synthetic hormones, I have seen bad things happen with friends, and good things with Bioidentical hormones with friends that have been using Progesterone creams for up to 20 years.

The stage of a woman’s reproductive life when the ovaries gradually begin to produce less estrogen is known as perimenopause. It usually starts in woman’s 40s, but can start in a woman’s 30s or even earlier. This stage lasts till menopause starts. Some of the perimenopausal symptoms are like hot flashes, breast tenderness, decreased libido, fatigue, irregular periods, vaginal dryness and discomfort during sex, urinary urgency and mood swings. Now, these are normal symptoms of perimenopause. But if someone experiences spotting after sex and if her periods are heavy then there can be something serious to think about.
